Tyler Mendelsohn reports on an exciting new development for the Starts Here! reading series:
According to Jen Michalski, one of the coordinators of Starts Here!, the goal of the reading series is to highlight new and original voices. “It's kind of in the title!” says Michalski. “We try to showcase the freshest regional and national voices—not necessarily the ones on the [New York Times] bestseller list, but writers who are writing important, original, exciting (and often overlooked) fiction and nonfiction. Consider us the concierge of literature you should know about and be reading. Kind of like those book-of-the-month clubs, but around the corner.”

Tyler Mendelsohn reviews her pick for Book of the Day:
One of the things that stands out about The Argonauts is its balance of academic writing and writing that gets at an emotional core. Throughout the book, Maggie Nelson interweaves quotes from various philosophers, writers and thinkers of all kinds, past and present—but ultimately, the book is a love letter to her partner Harry, whom she addresses as “you” throughout the book.
Jeff Kinney's latest entry in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series takes the top spot this week.
