Morenike Euba Oyenusi is a Nigerian American author, publisher, lawyer, minister, and graduate of the University of London, and Jesus College, Cambridge.
Her first book, Chasing Butterflies in the Sunlight, is an illustrated chapter book for children. It was a finalist in the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. The book narrates the joys and innocence of childhood as experienced by Ronke, a young girl growing up on a culturally and racially diverse university campus in Nigeria. Through Ronke’s adventures and travel, the book showcases Nigeria’s rich history, geography, culture, and culinary delights.
Ms. Oyenusi’s second book, Isaiah and the Orchestra of Sounds, is a graphic story about a 14-year-old with a resident orchestra in his right ear. Written in free verse, this book includes educational resources to raise crucial awareness about tinnitus, a condition affecting nearly 500 million people worldwide. It won the Grand Prize of the 2022 Jerry Pinkney Children’s Book Awards, sponsored by the National Black Book Festival, and it also received accolades in the Motivational and Educational categories, as well as the 2022 Readers’ Favorite Bronze Medal in the Fiction – Graphic Novel/Comic genre.
In The Shepherd’s Care, six-year-old Lydia encounters various acts of kindness from the people she meets following her father’s sudden and unexpected death. This heartwarming story emphasizes the values of empathy and community support. It was a 2023 Readers’ Favorite Finalist Award Winner in the Children – Christian genre.
In Ms. Oyenusi’s latest book, The Primary Colors, which bestselling author Adam Wallace has called “a beautiful story of acceptance and faith triumphing over fear and the unknown”, Cobalt Blue and his community, all of whom are blue, red, or yellow, learn how diversity enriches our world.
Passionate about literature and being an inspiration to others, in 2020, Ms. Oyenusi founded Paradise Restored Publishing which, in addition to her books, has published Dr. Patricia Aladekoba’s Solace: Empowering Pastor’s Wives to Prevent and Overcome Burnout.
When Ms. Oyenusi isn’t juggling fictional or legal writing, you will probably find her immersed in a good piece of literary fiction, at the theater, watching a movie, jet-setting to new places, hanging out with her children and friends, or discovering new ways to tweak recipes —usually after very long walks that fuel creativity.
