Summer Concert Series: Cross Cultural Connections

Bird in Hand hosts Taylor Wang (Piano) and David Manzanares-Salguero (Guitar) to present a coffee house concert of classical works that explore works by composers who took inspiration from other pieces, other composers, and other cultures! Doors open at 5:45 for a 6:00 start. The concert takes place during our Happy Hour, where you can enjoy a dollar off our summer cocktail menu. Stop by just for a drink or stay the whole time!

In the spirit of cross-cultural connections, we will also have a feature display of all our favorite international cookbooks. You’ll definitely want to check it out!

This concert is free to attend, but a cash donation basket will be available at the door to directly support the artists.

An active solo and collaborative pianist, Taylor Wang has performed across the United States  and abroad in Canada, Italy, and Germany. Her engagements include performances at Weill  Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, PianoArts North American Competition in Milwaukee, Houston  Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy, and Community Concerts at Second in Baltimore.

A strong supporter of community outreach through music, Taylor is the founder and student  director of Peabody at the Shelter, which programs monthly concerts at a local shelter to bring a  sense of hope and community. Previously, Taylor served as the Musician-in-Residence at  Edenwald Senior Living Community and was a part of Peabody Institute’s Music for a While  program to bring music to the healthcare environment. Taylor received a Bachelor’s of Music from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins  University and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Music under the tutelage of Boris Slutsky.

Described as “a staggeringly talented young artist with powerful rhythm and elegant  phrasing” (Austin Classical Guitar), David Manzanares-Salguero is a multi-award-winning  classical guitarist from Houston, TX. He has won top prizes in several competitions  including the Philadelphia Guitar Competition, Southwest Guitar Symposium, and the  Columbus Guitar Symposium. Most recently, David was a co-winner in the prestigious Yale  Gordon Concerto Competition. Some of his most recent notable performances include  performing for the Austin Classical Guitar’s play! series and a performance at the Home of  the Spanish Ambassador in Washington D.C.

David received his Bachelor of Music in Performance at The Peabody Institute of  Music of the Johns Hopkins University studying with Dr. Thomas Viloteau. He continued his  studies at Peabody receiving his Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy studying  with Maestro Manuel Barrueco. Currently, David is pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts  at the University of Texas in Austin studying with Professor Adam Holzman.
