As the novel opens, Kate Carrington, a pediatric nurse and wife of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore City, is leaning over the deck of the SS Tropical Sea, contemplating suicide. Kate leaves behind everything she holds dear to live in a place that she knows nothing about and where the people rival the fauna for color and improbability. She falls in love with a dreadlocked fisherman and gets caught up in a bloody revolution, which is followed with an invasion by the United States.

Back in Baltimore, her husband, who had paid a hired gun to have her killed on the cruise ship, believes she is dead. Baltimore and Winward have one thing in common: they share the headlines for murder and mayhem.

The Carringtons run into each other in Winward after six years of separation. Just when they both thought that they had survived the worst that life could offer, they are forced to rethink.

Dawne Allette was born in Grenada, West Indies. She is an author, artist, comedienne and motivational speaker. Her books are noted for their lyricism, inspiration and humor. She has authored 7 children's books, 2 biographies, a textbook and a memoir. Mango Samba is her first novel. Ms. Allette currently resides in Baltimore.

Judith Plymyer has traveled and lived in different countries worldwide. She  received a law degree from the University of Maryland. She has been a prosecutor at the US Attorney's Office in D.C and Assistant Attorney General for the Maryland Department of Agriculture. She also served for 9 years as a Maryland Administrative law judge.  Mrs. Plymyer is an avid reader and quilter.
