We're delighted to present an afternoon meet-and-greet with local author John C. McLucas, in celebration of his new novel, The Boxer's Mask! This drop-in style event will take place on our covered front porch, so you can come chat with John and get your book signed!
John C. McLucas is the author of Dialogues on the Beach (2017) and its sequel Spirit's Tether (2020), both published by BrickHouse Books. He describes his fiction as gay and gay-adjacent, "Gore Vidal meets Italo Calvino." He is Professor Emeritus of Italian at Towson University. He has extensive scholarly publications and translations, mostly in the field of Renaissance epic.
His new novel, The Boxer's Mask, is in part an homage to Henry James' The Tragic Muse. It charts the varied attachments which a group of American and British expats in Rome form with a charismatic young Italian actor starting his career. The COVID pandemic interrupts their routines and obsessions, as the masks of comedy and tragedy take on more than metaphorical meaning.
John is also a classical singer, a Presbyterian elder, and an art lover. His dog and two cats all have Italian names; his seven goldfish are all named Foosh.
