The Ivy Bookshop and Bird in Hand are delighted to host an evening with poets Maya Popa and Mary Jo Salter, in celebration of Maya Popa's latest collection, Wound is the Origin of Wonder! Both poets will read sets of poems, and engage in a conversation about each other's work. This event will take place at Bird in Hand, 11 E. 33rd St, Baltimore, MD 21218.
We look forward to a meaningful conversation between two poets whose craft shines and whose work extends beyond the page, making the poetry world a place we're lucky to be.
Maya C. Popa is the author of Wound is the Origin of Wonder (2022) and American Faith (2019), a recipient of the North American Book Prize. She holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London, on the role of wonder in poetry. She is the Poetry Reviews Editor of Publishers Weekly, Director of Creative Writing at the Nightingale-Bamford School, and teaches poetry at NYU and elsewhere.
Mary Jo Salter is the author of nine collections of poems, most recently Zoom Rooms (2022) and The Surveyors (2017). She has been editor of Amy Clampitt’s Collected Poems and Selected Poems, and a co-editor of three editions of The Norton Anthology of Poetry.
