THE HOT L POETS SERIES continues at Bird in Hand! This month's featured readers are Elizabeth Spires and Kelly Michelle Thomas! And remember to bring a poem (3 min. or less) to share during the open mic.
Elizabeth Spires is the author of several poetry collections, including A Memory of the Future (W. W. Norton, 2018), The Wave-Maker (W. W. Norton, 2008), and Worldling (W. W. Norton, 1995), winner of the 1996 Whiting Writers’ Award. An acclaimed children’s author, Spires has also published several children’s books including, most recently, Kate's Light: Kate Walker at Robbins Reef Lighthouse, with illustrations by Emily Arnold McCully.Her honors include the Amy Lowell Travelling Poetry Scholarship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Witter Bynner Prize for Poetry. She lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
Kelly Michelle Thomas began creating artwork under the name “Miche” in 2014. In 2015, she challenged herself to write every day for 125 Days, as a form of therapy after ending an abusive relationship. Those writings became the two-part poetry collection titled, 125 Days, published in 2021. Her poetry was recently featured in the 2023 Maryland Bards Poetry Review anthology. She is currently working on her third book.
