Creative writing is one of the most important skills kids can learn. It not only allows them to express their feelings, it helps them clarify their ideas and beliefs, and discover what they know or think about a topic.
The Ivy wants to help your child develop their creating writing skills. By pairing young writers with published authors, we want to unleash your child's imagination and help them discover how much fun writing can be. The skills they will develop through our carefully crafted IvyKids Writing Workshops will improve their literacy, encourage their creativity and build their self-esteem.
Setting plays an important part of every story. In this workshop, young writers will explore different techniques to bring their stories to life. Karina, author The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street, a 2017 New York TimesNotable Children's Book, is a contributing editor at Book Riot, the largest independent book media company in North America.
About The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street: The Vanderbeekers have always lived in the brownstone on 141st Street. It's practically another member of the family. So when their reclusive, curmudgeonly landlord decides not to renew their lease, the five siblings have eleven days to do whatever it takes to stay in their beloved home and convince the dreaded Beiderman just how wonderful they are. And all is fair in love and war when it comes to keeping their home.
Karina will also visit with fans and sign books from 11 to 11:30. This portion of the event is free and open to the public.
To RSVP, call 410-377-2966 or email MarthaAtTheIvy@gmail.com by May 13th. This event is open to grades 4-8.
$25 fee includes a signed copy of The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street and a journal.
