The Azola family has spent the last fifty years renovating some of Baltimore’s most historically important structures, from 17th century log cabins to multi-storied skyscrapers. These include the Pimlico Race Track Clubhouse, the Bromo-Seltzer Building, the Ivy Hotel and many others. Each structure represents an important time and place in our city’s history. Marty Azola’s new book, Rebuilding Baltimore, is a remarkable exploration of this historic preservation. Several important chapters of Baltimore’s history are told through twenty-six diverse projects.
Martin P. Azola holds several degrees in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and is licensed to practice engineering in Maryland. After service as a captain in the Alaskan Air Command, Marty returned to Baltimore to work with his father. He grew the Azola Companies into the region’s premier historic rehabilitation firm, garnering dozens of state and national awards. Marty has offered expert testimony to Federal Congressional authorities on historic tax credits, and has been lauded by three Maryland governors for service to the building industry. He is currently a member of the Maryland Historical Trust Board of Trustees.
