Join us at Bird in Hand to celebrate the launch of Brenda Serpick's the other conjunction in it. Serpick will be joined by another local poet, Ailish Hopper, the author of Bird in the Head, selected by Jean Valentine for the Center for Book Arts chapbook prize and as runner up for the New Issues Poetry Prize.
Brenda Serpick is a poet and teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools. She received an MFA in poetry from The New School and is the author of three chapbooks: the other conjunction in it (Furniture Press 2018) No Sequence But Luck (3 Sad Tigers Press) and The Female Skeleton Makes Her Debut (Hophophop Press). She was a participating poet for Tupelo Press’ 30/30 Project (July 2016), and her poems are forthcoming or have appeared in Tule Review, Requited Journal, The Potomac, Free State Review, eccolinguistics, Print
Ailish Hopper, the author of Bird in the Head, selected by Jean Valentine for the Center for Book Arts chapbook prize, and Dark~Sky Society, runner up for the New Issues Poetry Prize. Individual poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Harvard Review, Ploughshares, Poetry, and many other places, and she's received support from the MacDowell Colony, Maryland State Arts Council, and Yaddo, as well as elsewhere. In addition to page poetry she performed with the poetry band Heroes are Gang Leaders; she's also the author of a number of essays, most recently in Boston Review. She teaches at Goucher College.
