Airea Matthews and Will Schutt: Yale Press Firsts

The Ivy welcomes Will Schutt and Airea Matthews for a night of poetry.

Airea D. Matthews, 2016 winner of the Yale Younger Poets prize for Simulacra, grew up in New Jersey and studied at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan. She has been awarded the Rona Jaffe Writer’s Foundation Award and a Kresge Literary Arts award, among other honors. Matthews teaches at Bryn Mawr College, where she directs the creative writing program.

Will Schutt, 2012 winner of the Yale Younger Poets prize for Westerly, was born in New York City and graduated from Oberlin College and Hollins University. His honors include a fellowship from Stadler Center for Poetry and the Amy Lowell Travelling Poetry Fellowship. He has also received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts for his translations from the Italian of Edoardo Sanguineti. His translation My Life, I Lapped It Up: Selected Poems of Edoardo Sanguineti was published in 2018. Schutt lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
