Susan Muaddi Darraj will share her experience and expertise as a writer, discussing where ideas come from, editing and revision, and how publishing works. She will place special emphasis on building and developing characters that are fun, interesting and keep readers turning the pages. Participants will complete a short writing exercise and decorate a "writer's idea notebook."
Susan recently launched Farah Rocks, a children's chapter book series for ages 8-12. Farah Hajjar, known as Farah Rocks to her friends, is a smart, funny, and brave Palestinian-American girl. She loves her little brother Samir, Greek mythology, and-yes-her rock collection! In this 4-book series, Farah faces all of life's challenges: bullies, school drama, and even problems with her best friend.
Susan is an award-winning author of more than 10 books, including two short story collections. She is an Associate Professor of English at Harford Community College and she teaches creative writing at Johns Hopkins University and Fairfield University. A native Philadelphian, she currently lives in Baltimore. She loves books, coffee, and baseball, and she's mildly obsessed with stationery supplies.
$25 fee includes a signed copy of Farah Rocks Fifth Grade and an Ivy Bookshop Journal. RSVP here by March 7th.
