Karen Webber: VESSELS OF LIGHT (with Joey Reisberg)
Event Details
5928 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21209
The Ivy invites you to a book event to celebrate the publication of Vessels of Light: Inspirations from a Spiritual Landscape by photographer Ellen Zimmerman and poet Cantor Karen Webber. Karen will be in conversation with local poet and translator Joseph Reisberg about accessing the spiritual world through words, and the two will also share thoughts from Ellen Zimmerman, the book’s co-author.
Books and refreshments will be available for sale at the event.
Karen Webber, a wordsmith, and teaching and performing artist, was ordained as a cantor by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1990. A Poet-in-Residence at ‘Teach the Shoah,’ her work has appeared in magazines, anthologies and Prophetic Voices: a Haftarah commentary and elsewhere. Karen has been awarded several grants by The Maryland State Arts Council.
Ellen Zimmerman is a fine art photographer who creates images that do not exist in the real world, but that tickle the edges of the imagination. Like an alchemist, she finds tiny jewels in nature, then alters them to create new realities infused with hints of spirituality and dreams. Her work has been displayed in galleries in the United States, Canada, England, and Europe.
Joey Reisberg is a doctoral student in Jewish Languages and Literatures at Johns Hopkins University. Previously, he was the Applebaum Family Fellow in Bibliography and Translation at the Yiddish Book Center. His poems and translations appear in Jewish Fiction.net, The Adroit Journal, The Loch Raven Review, and elsewhere.
