Phoebe Greenwood with Michael Reynolds: VULTURE
Event Details
5928 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21209
You’re invited to an evening with Phoebe Greenwood, whose new novel Vulture draws readers into the dark heart of western media, and with audacity and humour, questions its complicity in the tragedies that feed it. Centered on a young news reporter who is sent to cover a war from the Beach Hotel in Gaza, it’s an arresting, incisive commentary on our present moment as much as it is on longer-standing media trends.
We are delighted that Michael Reynolds, Executive Publisher of Europa Editions– Vulture’s publisher– will join Greenwood in conversation.
From the author– to give you a taste of what you might ponder at this event: “This book is about the war news industry and how it fails the people whose tragedies fuel it. Its dysfunction, self-interest and crippling existential angst. I’m a great believer in free and fair journalism. Journalists are some of my favorite people. I also think the media needs to hold itself to account now more rigorously than ever if it wants to be trusted. As Omar El Akkad writes in his brilliant One Day Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This: ‘The worst and most successful war reporters I meet are all very confident.'”
We hope you’ll join us for this exciting, insightful evening!
