Fiction writer, essayist, and critic Aleksandar Hemon is the author of five books. Born in Sarajevo in 1964, Hemon traveled to Chicago at the age of twenty-seven and watched from a distance as war broke out in his home country. This trip would mark the beginning of his life in the United States. Hemon is the author of The Question of Bruno, Nowhere Man, The Lazarus Project, and Love and Obstacles. He has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a "genius grant" from the MacArthur Foundation, the Jan Michalski Prize for Literature, the PEN/W.G. Sebald Award, and, most recently, a 2012 USA Fellowship. Hemon frequently publishes in The New Yorker, and has also written for Esquire, The Paris Review, and the Op-Ed page of The New York Times.
